From 28th June, The Gallery will be showcasing the work of Singaporean artist Kiat, in the titled show As-Is.

In his second solo exhibition, As-Is, artist Kiat explores the potential of painting as a conscious, responsive entity, and the many forms of presence it can embody. For the artist, this presence emerges through a fluid engagement with space and process, allowing painting itself to guide the possible outcomes of representation.

In this exhibition, painting becomes an act for holding space—for the artist, the viewer and itself. Each canvas offers a quiet invitation to pause, reflect and be present with what arises. Like the therapeutic gesture from which the term originates, these works are less about directing emotion than allowing it, creating a visual sanctuary where ambiguity, serendipity and vulnerability can simply exist. Through colour, form and gesture, the works holds space for us to feel, to witness and to be. Michelle Ho finds out more from the artist.
